Mikveh is a ritual bath where Orthodox Jewish women regularly achieve ritual purity. In the play of the contemporary Israeli playwright Hadar Galron, it becomes a place where various perceptions of beliefs and modern reality collide and are confronted. A new bath attendant comes to the Orthodox believers community, and the fates of local women slowly unfold in front of her - the dramas that everyone knows but nobody talks about. The female community around the former bath attendant refuses the new one at first, opposes the new solutions to their problems, but then women try to rebel against the binding rules of their community at the end. But be careful. By the traditional Jewish ritual, this contemporary play opens the topic of women's position in society, the relationship between the faith and archaic stereotypes to the contemporary everyday life. And they are nor shared only by the Orthodox Jews or other believers, but they are also hidden in the depths of the minds of secular people. The play is deeply human in this, and it has a strong response wherever it is played. And moreover it offers excellent acting opportunities thanks to psychologically rich characters and their dramatic fates. Liberec will welcome the young successful Slovak director Jakub Nvota as the director in the Small Theatre for the first time.
